The Nightmare Before Vacation

IMG_20131013_220358

Hello Everyone!

Cierra here, and today I’m going to be sharing with you the top 10 things that people forget when packing for vacation. Between my sisters and our parents we have all forgotten these items in the past. It is never intentional to forget something, you just sometimes have so many things to do and get done before leaving that they simply slip your mind. Anyways, having said that, we have found where all the Targets, Sams Clubs and any other stores we’re familiar with, within about a 10 mile radius of where we’re staying, haha!

  1. Toothbrushes
  2. Toothpaste
  3. Socks
  4. A Change of shoes. (I don’t care if there isn’t rain in the forecast; you take an extra pair of shoes because inevitably your shoes will get wet.)
  5. Pillows (My family and I take our own pillows, we don’t like to think of all the heads and hair, in various stages of cleanliness has touched the hotel pillows, yuck!)
  6. Lysol (Once again we like things clean.)
  7. Power Charging cords. (Luckily 4 of the 5 of us have the same brand of phone, so odds are one of us will have one that someone else can use.)
  8. Sunglasses (Can’t even tell you how many “souvenir” sunglasses have come home with us over the years.)
  9. Chap stick. (Whether it’s hot or not your lips on vacation could be completely dried out.)
  10. Sun block. (Always to forget to put it on, so we get to bring home beautiful red sunburn that turns into a nice peel, especially the scalp, fun times.)

Well those are the top 10 of things that we have forgotten. If you have any you would like to share, please do!

Have a great day!

Hello Everyone!

I hope you are all doing well! Cierra here and I just wanted to give a little update of what’s coming in our tomorrow’s, hence the title.

Lindsey: Currently working on her last semester for her bachelor’s. She’s also flexing her Girlboss muscles at work.

Cierra: Just sent in my application for my 6th semester of my bachelor’s program and trying to deal with some work changes.

Sydnee: A month into her junior year of high school and constantly training in figure skating.

Collectively, we are all very excited to be heading to Disneyland in just a few weeks to experience Halloweentime. This and Christmas is our favorite time at Disneyland. We’re still training for the superheroes half marathon weekend infinity gauntlet challenge. Lindsey and I are excited to go back to the farmer’s market for my bake shoppe (www.cierrasbakeshoppe.com). Plus all of us are so excited for fall! Two of the three of us have already put up our Halloween decorations and we don’t care who knows it! Haha!

We hope you are all having a wonderful week and we’ll talk to you soon!

What I’m Obsessed With… Today At Least

2017-08-24 16.58.24

Hey Everyone!

Cierra here, and today I thought I would share with you what I’m currently obsessed with. If you are an avid Michael’s shopper like my mom and I, you have probably come across these amazing stamp sets.

They are apart of the Everyday Value program that is currently going on within the store. Currently they have 4 different kinds of everyday reminders and social media icons. However, I was very excited to see that they have a Halloween set. I couldn’t resist! This makes me very hopeful that soon a fall set will be released and then after that…Christmas!!

They also had a few different ombre inspired ink pads but they also have a set of different color inks mixed in with the stamp sets. I love these stamps and encourage you to try them as well!

Have a great day!!

Travel Tuesday: San Diego Day Trip

IMG_2173

Good Morning everyone! Sydnee here…. Again. We’re kind of slacking on blog post ideas at the moment so I thought I would share what we did on our recent one-day trip to San Diego, California. All of the pictures her were taken by me.

The day started out early… 5 am early but we wanted to get a full day there. Once we got there we basically spent the whole time finding somewhere to eat we had some places in mind but they were too crowded so we had to keep driving, but that wasn’t such a bad thing because we ended up by Scripps beach where Lindsey and I took a quick ankle dip in the water.

IMG_2202

(Blogger moment for me (right side) you can see my camera lense lol)

\From there we just decided to go to an old favorite to eat. Point Break Café on Shelter Island has some of the best food I’ve ever eaten. It is a quirky little café across the street from the ocean that has amazing chocolate chip pancakes. We got lunch there for the first time on this trip and let me tell you that burger is my best friend. It was cooked perfectly and it was the perfect size, the perfect size in burger language is “can barely fit it into my mouth” perfect. The fries were also really good so our whole family recommends this cute little restaurant in the heart of Point Loma.

After that we went to Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute of Oceanography. It was really crowded but I still enjoy reading and looking at the cute little marine animals. My favorite thing is the view on the outside pictured here is the pier we were by in the first picture so we’re pretty high up.

\When we left Scripps we headed over to Seaport Village so we could do a little shopping and then have dinner before we left. Cierra and I both bought Tervis cups from the Tervis store (our guilty pleasure). Her cup has little donuts on it so it matches her blog planner and I got a Toronto Maple Leafs one because hockey season is coming up! After the Tervis store Lindsey and I headed to the Hilton San Diego Bayfront so we could get Starbucks, we both got Java Chip Frappes. Almost right after the Frappes we went to our favorite pizza place, Assagio’s Pizza Pasta Plus. They ran out of breadsticks (still salty about it) but the pizza was pretty dang good and the best way to eat pizza is by the ocean.

IMG_2298

After we ate, it was time to head out so we got in the car to head back home to the heat. Did I mention that it was 70 degrees the whole time? Well it was and I loved it. It wasn’t a long trip by any means but it was nice to spend a day by the ocean then have Sunday to get ready for the week ahead. As they say, a Saturday at the beach is better than a Saturday at home! I’m not sure who says that or if that’s even a things but I like it! Thank you for reading I’ll see you back here next Tuesday!

Keep Calm And Have A Cupcake

81017.jpg

Hey Everyone!

It’s Cierra and today I’ve decided that we have earned a cupcake. We made it past Wednesday, now we’re on that weird day standing between you and your weekend and you have done so well. You got out of bed today, if you really overachieved and got dressed you earned extra sprinkles, so go you! And to help with the possible guilt of having a cupcake, I’m sharing with you a recipe for Chocolate Cupcakes, so you have to work for your reward. So without further ado:

Cupcakes:

  • 1 1/2 Cups AP Flour
  • 1 1/4 Cups Sugar
  • 1/2 Cup Unsweetened Cocoa
  • 1 1/4 tsp Baking Soda
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 Cup Buttermilk
  • 2/3 Cup Oil
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Eggs

Heat oven to 350 Degrees F. Line 2 (12 cup) Muffin tins with cupcake liners. Set aside. In large bowl, blend all ingredients until moistened. Divide batter evenly among cupcake liners. Bake at 350 Degrees F. for 20 to 25 minutes.

Frost as desired and enjoy!!!

Desk Essentials

Hey Everyone, Cierra here. I hope you are all having a fantastic week so far, once we make it through today it will finally be the weekend. Doesn’t it feel like this week has gone on forever?
Anyways, since the theme for this week has been school/ work, I thought I would share with you my desk essentials. The desk in the picture above is mine and it’s where I write posts for this blog as well as my personal (www.mightrunforcupcakes.com), where I do my homework (currently studying for my bachelor’s in business management) and where I run my online bakery business (www.cierrasbakeshoppe.com). So it serves as the headquarters for my many adventures. A few, let’s be honest the list is never ending and changes on a day to day basis, of my essentials are:
– The magnetic whiteboard calender: this keeps track of my crazy schedule, tells me what I have coming up, my work schedule and what orders need to be filled when and vacations when I get the chance to get away.
– The Three Drawer organizer: I have two, the little one atop of the desk and a big one under my desk. These are lifesavers when it comes to keeping all of my important things close by. The bigger one holds my files, my cameras, tablets and my never ending notebook supply.
– The shelf that sits above my desk is my motivation/happy things shelf. It holds some of my favorite pictures, as well as, momentous to remind me why I work so hard.
– The small striped wooden box next to the baker Piglet, holds most of my post-its. Before I had this, I usually had to really search for something little to write on, so with this little holder I can keep it close and organized.
– My sisters and I have a weird addictions to pens. Whenever we go to Target we are always down the pen aisle, we have plenty but never enough it seems. So because of that issue I have 3 holders on my desk just for pens.
– In front of those pens is a coaster. Lindsey picked up these cute beach themed coasters for sydnee and I, while she was vacationing in Newport a few years back. That combined with the Brad Paisley Koozie has made such a difference to keeping the condensation from the daily ice coffees from making a watery mess.
For today, those are the top desk essentials. If you have any suggestions or would like to share your desk essentials, please comment below!

Have a great day!

What We’re Thinking About Wednesday

Hey Everyone!

We hope your week is going well so far! This week is focused on school/essentials, planning, etc. So today we decided to break it up and make today about Shark Week. It’s always sad when Shark Week comes to an end but we do dvr the shows, so we can keep enjoying them. We will be sharing what we thought about each of the new shows that aired during Shark Week. So here we go:

1.jpg  Great White Shark Serial Killer Lives (Picture from msn.com)

There is not enough money in the world to get us on a little dock teasing a shark and putting our hands anywhere near a sharks mouth.

2.jpg Phelps Vs. Shark: The Battle For Ocean Supremacy (Picture from discovery.uk)

We were rooting for Michael Phelps but a two second difference is incredible.

3 Shark- Croc Showdown (Picture from moviefone.com)

Interesting theories but in our opinion there’s just a little too much “eating” of cute things being shown.

4Great Hammerhead Invasion (Picture from facebook.com)

Pretty cool but not really convinced.

5.jpg Shark Vortex (Picture from une.edu)

We love any show with Dr. Greg Skomal.

6  Return the the Isle of Jaws (Picture from Radiotimes.com)

Andy Casa Grande + Paul De Gelder = Epic.

7  Alien Sharks: Stranger Fins (Picture from moviefone.com)

It’s always crazy to see sharks that were thought to be extinct or didn’t know of their existence.

8 Sharks and the City: LA (Picture from spacecoastdaily.com)

Very cool but also scary because we visit these places often.

9 Sharks and The City: New York (Picture from youtube.com)

When you think of sharks, you don’t really think of New York.

10.jpg The Lost Cage (Picture from youtube.com)

Pretty Awesome.

11 Devil Sharks (Picture from youtube.com)

Volcanoes and sharks, I mean….come on…. that’s awesome!

12 Shark Exile (Picture from sealightpictures.com)

It will be interesting to see if the technique continue to be successful.

13 Shark Storm (Picture from npr.org)

Pretty cool to see all of the species of sharks coexisting so closely to each other.

14 African Shark Safari (Picture from sdlexpeditions.com)

The dives are beautiful but terrifying.

15 Lair of the Sawfish (Picture from dstv.com)

Pretty incredible fish.

16 Shark Mania (Picture from writtalin.com)

This show is pretty much a recap of all the epic moments from Shark Week 2017.

17 Shark School with Michael Phelps (Picture from quettaweb.com)

This would be an amazing school to attend.

We would love to hear your thoughts! Have a great day!

Thirsty Thursday

7-27-2017.jpg

Hello Everyone!

We hope you are all having a wonderful week so far! Today we thought we would share a recipe for a delicious drink to enjoy while watching Shark Week. The drink is called strawberry party punch but we just had to make it sharky!

You will need:

  •  3 oz. Pkg. Strawberry flavor gelatin
  • 1 Cup Boiling water
  • 2 (6-oz.) Cans frozen pink lemonade concentrate, thawed
  • 6-oz. Can frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
  • 6 Cups cold water
  • 28 oz. bottle (3 1/2 Cups) ginger ale, chilled
  • 1 pint (2 cups) fresh strawberries with stems, frozen

Dissolve gelatin in boiling water; cool. In large punch bowl, combine gelatin mixture, lemonade concentrate, orange juice concentrate and cold water; refrigerate. Just before serving, gently stir in ginger ale and frozen strawberries.

Enjoy!
